The Vampire Diaries Season 5: What Is Silas Up To?
One major reason to be excited for tonight’s The Vampire DiariesSeason 5 premiere is the further exploration of Silas (Paul Wesley), who finally revealed his true face in the final moments of the Season 4 finale — and it’s identical to Stefan’s. What can we expect from this master villain moving forward? Here is a round-up of what we know so far about Silas in Season 5.
Silas vs. the town square
We first caught a glimpse of Silas’ speech to the town square in the Season 5 Comic Con sizzle reel. He talks those gathered about how he has spent the summer drinking blood and testing the limits of his power while Ghost Bonnie watches in horror: “I started to wonder what are the limits to my powers? How many people can I influence? Two? Ten? An entire town square?” Then, we saw a cut of Bonnie screaming. Basically, it doesn’t look good for anyone who decided to come to this particular town gathering. Reviews of the season premiere have said that Bonnie’s scream is totally justified, and we will be left “screaming ‘OMG!’ as the episode fades to black.” Yikes!
Katherine and Silas get closer
The Season 5 promo sees human-again Katherine and Silas-pretending-to-be-Stefan getting much closer. “Human looks better on you than I would have thought, Katherine,” Silas tells Katherine while she’s taking a bubble bath at the Salvatore mansion. Then, we see them moving in for a kiss. These two master villains could do some serious damage together.
In the Canadian promo for the Season 5 premiere, we see Damon confronting Silas about Stefan’s whereabouts. “Where’s Stefan?” Damon growls. “He’s suffering. Like I suffered,” Silas responds. Basically, Silas has no qualms about his doppelganger’s state of perpetual drowning — and doesn’t seem poised to draw Damon a map to the quarry anytime soon.
Silas is a “clean” vampire
While Silas is a fan of the human blood, he is not a fan of the mess that generally comes with all the blood-sucking. Paul said that Silas “won’t even bite people’s necks because he doesn’t want to degrade himself… He sort of just cuts people and drinks their blood because it’s cleaner.” We can’t decide if that is more or less terrifying.
Silas is decisive
In talking about the differences between our man Stefan and his evil progenitor, Paul shared that Silas is more decisive because he “has been around for 2,000 years, so his motivations come from deep, deep wisdom and knowledge as opposed to Stefan who is more self-aware.” Great, a decisive super-powerful killer. Just when we thought nothing else could go wrong in Mystic Falls.
The CW released this photo of Paul in the Mystic Falls town square with blood covering his face. We’re not sure if the vamp in question is Stefan or Silas, but we do know that the shot is from Season 5, Episode 3: “Original Sin.” Could this be Silas further testing his powers’ limits?
But it’s not all murder and mayhem! Apparently, we’ll be getting a super awkward hug between Damon and Silas-pretending-to-be-Stefan in the Season 5 premiere after their summer apart. Possibly, our most anticipated moment of the season premiere...
