Game of Thrones Season 5: When Does It Start Filming?

We still have three epic episodes of Game of Thrones Season 4 to look forward to, but that doesn't mean we haven't started wondering what to expect from Season 5. We know the show is definitely back — it's already been renewed through Season 6, so it's not going anywhere — but when does the next season begin filming?

Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) was recently asked by Anglophenia about Season 5 while she was attending the BAFTAs. "I know that the next season — whether I'm in it or not — will be shot over the summer, probably," she dished.

Hmm... Whether she's "in it or not"? Should you be worried about Sansa? Eh, we wouldn't read too much into that. On Game of Thrones anyone can die at any time, but that also means the actors are always hedging their comments about future seasons, even if they know perfectly well that their character lives another year. Gotta keep the mystery alive!

We're not surprised to hear that Season 5 will begin filming this summer. That's right in line with what's happened with the other seasons. For example, Season 4 began shooting in early July.

Not only will Season 5 start shooting soon, but it might be adding a new country to its already impressive roster of locations! Entertainment Weekly reports that HBO has been scouting for locations in the Andalucia region of Spain. No news yet on which part of Westeros or Essos these new locations would represent, but this is just proof that the world of Game of Thrones is always growing.

What are you hoping to see in Season 5? Sound off in the comments below!
