UPDATE: According to The Spoiling Dead Fans, The Walking Dead Season 5 "Filming will begin Monday, May 5th and will be at both the studio set and terminus."
So we were right on the May 5 prediction, and it sounds like this season is following last year's schedule pretty closely. That means the cast should be arriving in Georgia probably as we speak (late April) to prepare for the premiere episode. Just last weekend, Chandler Riggs said he still hadn't seen any scripts, but that should be changing right about now. Robert Kirkman said they'd be finished all the scripts by this summer, so they are still working on them. However, he said the finale was already "nailed down," so they know where things will end when the 16th episode airs around late March of next year.
And so the cycle continues!
Original story (February 2014):
We’re slightly more than halfway done with The Walking Dead Season 4, which means that Season 5 is right around the corner. Sure, we know the fifth season won’t debut until October 2014, but keep in mind that the cast starts filming months before that, so our Fall is bound to be littered with Season 5 spoilers!
TWD’s executive producer Gale Anne Hurd recently said that the post-production team finished sound mixing on the Season 4 finale earlier this month, so we can expect that everyone will take a few well-deserved months off before production gets underway on Season 5.
But exactly when can we expect the cast back on the Atlanta set? Based on the shooting schedule for seasons past we’d say that an early May start date is likely for Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan and co., though the writers will likely be hard at work long before that planning the story arcs and twists and turns we’ve come to love so much.
In February 2013 AMC even sent out a press release stating that filming for Season 4 would begin on May 6, so it’s possible we could be in for a similar announcement this year. Though nothing has been confirmed, Monday, May 5, 2014 sounds like the perfect start date to us!
We hate to wish Season 4 away since we still have six surely-stellar episodes left including the March 30 Season 4 finale, but we just love the show so much that we can’t wait for Season 5, especially since it’s been said that the fourth season ends on a “hopeful” note.
Do you think Season 5 of TWD will start filming in the first week of May 2014, or are our estimations way off? Tell us what you think below!
The Walking Dead Season 4 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
