Game of Thrones Season 5: Will Dany Get to Westeros?
It seems like we go through this every year, but with Game of Thrones now past the halfway mark (assuming the writers stick to their seven season goal), will Season 5 be the one where Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) finally makes it back to her homeland of Westeros? The A Song of Ice and Fire book series provides the likely answer.

If you’re hoping this is the year Dany makes it to Westeros, you’re going to be disappointed. Unless the show diverts majorly from the books, Dany’s sticking around in Essos for at least another season.
In the books, Dany begins to face trouble on many fronts. There is violence in the streets of Meereen caused by loyalists to the slave masters, Yunkai is marching toward Meereen for war, and a plague is sweeping through the city.
To deal with the first issue, Dany agrees to marry Hizdahr zo Loraq, who we met in Season 4, and he manages to quell the violence. As far as Yunkai is concerned, Dany sends them Daario and some other hostages to keep the peace. There’s not much she can do about the plague, but to lift the city’s spirits, Hizdahr convinces Dany to reopen the fighting pits for a tournament.
During the tourney, Drogon appears and starts killing people. Dany rushes to stop him, and ends up flying away on his back. She ends up back in the Dothraki Sea, where she encounters Khal Jhaqo, who was formerly a member of Khal Drogo’s Khalasar, and his Khalasar. Jhaqo was mentioned once but never seen in the show, so it’s unclear how the show will handle this encounter.
This is how the books leave Dany’s story, with George R. R. Martin claiming the Dothraki will play a large part in the next book, so maybe Dany and some Dothraki head to Westeros in Season 6? We feel like she’ll be stopping back in Meereen before then, but we’ll have to wait and see.
