Vampire Diaries Season 6: Is Bamon the New Klaroline?

Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) have never been the best of friends on The Vampire Diaries — in fact, they seem to all-out loathe one another. Will that change when they are stranded together in some otherworldly plane? Executive producer Julie Plec talked to E! Online about how Bamon could become the new Klaroline!

"To me, in spite of what [Bonnie and Damon] had in the books, that kind of relationship would only be born out of chemistry, and an on-screen connection," Julie teased. "Ian and Kat are super close. They love each other. They're very excited to work together. There could be instant chemistry there that we all sit back and watch like we did, frankly, with Klaus and Caroline, with that very first scene. There was never any plan to have romance but he cures her on her freaking birthday and all of a sudden, the world is melting…”

We’re glad Julie remembers that Klaroline scene the way we do, but we’re pretty sure the TVD fandom would implode if Bamon took on Klaroline-level support. The Internet can only support so many sharpened points on the Elena/Damon/Stefan love shape. That being said, even if we don’t think Bamon will become the next Klaroline, that doesn’t mean something won’t happen between these two frenemies. Up until this point, these two characters haven’t had much chance to explore their relationship (friendship seems to strong a term) with one another. When they did work together, it was as reluctant partners and there are usually other character dynamics that take the forefront. The final scene in the Season 5 finale when they clasped hands before being blinked out of existence (or something) was a glimpse at the connection these two could share -- romantic or otherwise.
