Vampire Diaries Season 6: How Will the Show Be “Reset”?
If you’re growing tired of the way The Vampire Diaries has been going the past few weeks (or few seasons), get ready for some major news about Season 6. There’s been a lot of hullabaloo — even from the show’s stars — about how deaths aren’t permanent and how the show is growing stale with no real threat of actually dying. If you fall in this group, you’re going to love this scoop on how the sixth season will go down.
“You will see a couple familiar faces pop up tonight, and you’ll also see a few familiar faces disappear,” Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert) teased to TVLine at the CW Upfronts on May 15. “We’re going to reset everything and make it so that once you die, you’re dead.”
Hmm, that must mean that the Other Side will be going away for good, right? If there’s no supernatural purgatory for you to wander around in and you immediately get sucked into the big black beyond forever that means there’s (probably) no chance at all for even witches to bring you back to life. (Tell Katherine Pierce we said hello if you happen to make it to that plane of existence.)
We really hope this is how the Season 5 finale — Season 5, Episode 22 (“Home”) — leaves things going into Season 6. We’ve known for a while now that there are to be three permanent deaths in tonight’s climactic conclusion — we’ve even speculated who might be biting it — but we’re thrilled the show is going to make itself a force to be reckoned with once more when it comes to having the guts to actually kill people off.
Cheers for Season 6 already, you guys! We approve.

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
