The lives of Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) were left up in the air in the Season 5 finale of The Vampire Diaries — Season 5, Episode 22 (“Home”). With the Other Side imploding in on itself and the two pals stuck there, the final moments saw the duo holding hands and, well, going toward the light. But will they be back for Season 6?
“I think the ending of the episode is meant to be left up deliberately for speculation of what exactly did happen to [Damon and Bonnie],” showrunner Julie Plec teased to Entertainment Weekly. “I can say for certain the Other Side is gone for good, and I can say for certain that when the Other Side disappeared for good that they had already been dealt with — whether it’s through finding peace or other means. Outside of that [laughs], I think I’ll let the speculation blow around for a little while longer.”
Translation: Have fun worrying about Damon and Bonnie all summer, fans! Blerg, Julie, how can you do this to us? We didn’t expect her to actually reveal exactly what had happened to Damon and Bonnie, but she’s really making us sweat. Can you at least let us know if we’ll be able to feast our eyes on Ian and Kat next year?
“We will definitely see Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham on the show,” Julie confirmed. “I mean, there’s a million different ways that you can do that. But as far as in what context — how, why, and where? — that’s part of the mystery.”
There it is, straight from the Power That Is herself. Ian and Kat will definitely be back, we just don’t know in what capacity. Given the fact that Season 6 has been teased as a “journey back to each other,” we expect to see the show split between Mystic Falls and wherever Damon and Bonnie are located.
Are you glad to hear that Ian and Kat will “definitely” be back for Season 6? Hit the comments and sound off!
