Vampire Diaries Season 6 Spoiler: Caroline Is “Really Struggling”
When The Vampire Diariesreturns for Season 6, Elena and Co. are still struggling in the wake of Damon and Bonnie’s “death.” Enter Caroline. Our favorite Vampire Barbie has been the band aid in this group of friends since Season 1, but she’s going to have her hands full this season as she struggles to fix her friends.
"[She is] trying to hold the whole group together and is just, in her mind, failing miserably and really struggling," executive producer Julie Plec told TVGuide.com. Not to mention, she also has to juggle her workload as a Whitmore College sophomore. As for her bestie Stefan, he "reacts to Damon's loss in ways we wouldn't expect.”
Clearly, Stefan won’t be returning to his Ripper ways, but that’s not making Caroline’s job any easier. Could he be in denial? Julie teases that Caroline is going to have a tough time helping Stefan grieve his brother — all while juggling her own feelings for him! At the end of Season 5, Caroline seemed to have developed romantic feelings for Stefan, so we’re interested in seeing where this relationship (platonic or not) is headed.
Back in July, Julie Plec teased fans at Comic Con, saying, “Caroline is probably someone who will surprise you. She's taken this loss — in a weird way almost the hardest — so she's going to have to bounce back in her Caroline way. Who she bounces back with and how she does it and how she's living her life is revealed in the first episode. Her journey is where are all her friends and if only she could figure out a way to bring them all back together, get the magic back to Mystic Falls, find a way to bring Damon and Bonnie home than life would be perfect. But it's harder than she thought.”
Is it wrong for us to assume that the person Caroline bounces back with is Enzo? Sure, he may be a bit of a baddie, but he’s also the only main cast member far enough removed from the group to make sense. We’re not thinking of anything romantic here — after all, we know how Caroline feels about sorely Brits — but we liked the cheeky dynamic between these two last season and hopefully, we see a bit of that when Season 6 returns in October.
Catch the Season 6 premiere of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, October 2 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
