It is not fun. Wherever Bamon ended up, it is not all cotton candy and gum drops. Executive producer Julie Plec let spill to TVLine: “Ooh, well… I can tell you this: Where they are is part of the mystery of the beginning of the season. It’s not torturous, but it’s by no means a roller coaster ride of fun. If nothing else, it’s a bit of an existential experience.” Sounds like purgatory. IS TVD pulling a Lost on us? Because that didn’t end so well for Ian Somerhalder the last time.
They’re just as confused as we are. Julie also revealed: “They’ll be aware that they’re no longer where they thought they were — but they’re also not dead, per se. They’ll be asking a lot of questions, along with the audience, including: What’s going on? Where the hell are we? And how do we get home?”
It’s not the Other Side. For anyone holding out hope on the Other Side, Julie revealed to Entertainment Weekly: “I can say for certain the Other Side is gone for good, and I can say for certain that when the Other Side disappeared for good that [Bamon] had already been dealt with — whether it’s through finding peace or other means. Outside of that [laughs], I think I’ll let the speculation blow around for a little while longer.”
It will be a reset. Julie told The Hollywood Reporter, “Season 6 is a beautiful and organic reset. The theme of the season is everybody gets to start over. That's what we're going to do.” We’re curious about how that theme might apply to Bonnie and Damon. Could their reset be more literal than some of the other characters? Perhaps they return to life as humans? Twist!
They will be fighting to return. Wherever Bamon is, you better believe they’re brainstorming ways to get back to the people they love. A promo poster for Season 6 reads: “Season six will be the story of their battle between good and evil within themselves, and their journey back to each other to reclaim their home.”
The substantial time jump. We’ve heard a lot about the several-months time jump that will occur between Seasons 5 and 6, but we’re not sure how it will have affected Bamon. Will they have been hanging out wherever they are for all of that time? Or will they have just regained consciousness after a period of non-existence, travel, etc.?
Bamon could hook up. Though Julie told E! Onlinethat the writers don’t have any plans to bring Damon and Bonnie together romantically, “You never know.” The executive producer said they want to “service the Bamon relationship from the books.” Said relationship with start with the opportunity to “bond and get close and to be comrades” and go from there. Suspense!
What do you think happened to Bamon? Are you pulling for any of our theories? Sound off in the comments below!
