“I think the ending of the episode is meant to be left up deliberately for speculation of what exactly did happen to them,” Julie teased. “I can say for certain The Other Side is gone for good, and I can say for certain that when The Other Side disappeared for good that they had already been dealt with — whether it’s through finding peace or other means. Outside of that [laughs], I think I’ll let the speculation blow around a little while longer.”
As for whether Ian and Kat will be back for Season 6, Julie had a much more definitive answer: “We will definitely see Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham on the show. I mean, there’s a million different ways that you can do that. But as far as in what context — how, why, and where? — that’s part of the mystery.” Good news, right? Here’s hoping TVD doesn’t bring them back as robots or shape-shifting villains or Silas…
We have high hopes for the continued presence of Damon and Bonnie as we previously knew them — well, except for the being probably trapped in some other realm part. We think that whatever Grams was hinting at regarding looking out for Bonnie may well have been the key to saving both Bonnie and Damon. (Fingers crossed!) If so, the beginning of Season 6 will be about these characters’ “journey back to each other,” not to mention some serious Bonnie/Damon bonding time — something we haven’t seen much of before. Potentially seeing these two have to get to know one another better and work together to save themselves would certainly be a fresh way to start Season 6.
