OK, this is more parts wishful thinking than speculation, but Stefan does have “friends” in the Big Easy. Did Stefan head to NOLA to drown his sorrows Ripper-style with his friend Klaus? Vampires/people often deal with death in extreme ways, reverting to bad habits and relationships. It would make some sense that, with the loss of his oldest friend (i.e. Damon), Stefan would seek the companionship of the vampires he’s known almost as long.
We’d like to think Stefan has matured more than that. This past season, he showed incredible emotional maturity in moving past his broken heart and his traumatic experience locked in an underwater vault for three months. We’re sure Damon’s death hits harder than those experiences combined, but Stefan is strong. As a way to curb his sorrow and stay away from reminders of the brother he thinks he will never see again, did Stefan take off for a round-the-world trip? We can totally see him meditating in the Himalayas or something.
Another way Stefan could possibly deal with the death of his brother is to channel his pain into helping others. Seems like the sort of thing Saint Stefan would do, no? Come Season 6, we could see Stefan working at an orphanage or taking on human trafficking rings on the other side of the world. We’d totally watch a spin-off of Stefan being a tortured superhero. Or, you know, at least one episode of it.
This one is specific, we know, but Paul Wesley speaks Polish fluently and it seems like a waste not to take advantage of that particular skill. Is Stefan hanging in Krakow or Warsaw or a little, out-of-the-way village in the Polish countryside? Maybe he and Damon spent some time there back in the day. Maybe Stefan is retracing the path of his dearly departed brother. Anything to hold onto the brother he lost.
