American Idol Season 7 Finalist Michael Johns Dies at 35 (UPDATE)

Update (August 18, 2014):

Almost a month after his sudden death, new details have surfaced about Michael's passing. TMZ reports his estranged wife, Stacey Vuduris, "created a lie" to cover-up Michael's alcohol abuse.

Legal documents filed by Michael's friend, Torrey Gambill, and obtained by TMZ show the two have been locking horns since Michael's death and that law enforcement officials claim Michael had been heavily using alcohol prior to his death. Torrey points to texts he received from Stacey saying she'd prefer the "'alcoholic' stuff" be left out of the story of his death. "At least blood clot sounds sudden," one text reportedly says.

Both parties have fired off legal paperwork about this recent development so we'll see what happens next.

Original story (August 2, 2014):

In very sad news from the music world, American Idol Season 7 finalist Michael Johns has died at the age of 35.

Michael, who landed in eighth place on the Fox singing competition during 2007's Season 7, died on August 1. His death is believed to have been caused by a blood clot in his ankle that came about after he recently twisted the ankle, according to TMZ.

Someone involved with Michael's fan site took to Twitter to address the sad news. "It is with a heavy heart and inconsolable sadness that we confirm the passing of our friend Michael Johns," read the tweet.

Michael was married to Stacey Vuvuris, whom he wed in 2007. The singer-songwriter released his album, Hold Back My Heart, in 2009, which featured single "Heart on My Sleeve." In February 2014, he released a new single called "Day Breaks Sun."

Michael was born in Perth, Australia, and auditioned for Idol with the Otis Redding song "I've Been Loving You Too Long." Before the show, he had signed with Maverick Records and was in a band called The Rising.

Our thoughts go out to Michael's family and loved ones during this very difficult time.
