The Voice Season 7: What’s the Name of Pharrell’s Hip-Hop Duo?

Not gonna lie — we're pretty happy about Pharrell Williams joining The Voice as a coach for Season 7! The music mogul will replace Cee Lo Green in the singing competition, and with his areas of expertise spanning all across the industry, he'll round out the judges roster nicely.

Over Twitter, the 40-year-old "Happy" singer said that the gig "is going to be so fun"! We agree, but you know what else was fun? His hip-hop production duo that's been cranking out jams since 1992. Wetpaint Entertainment asked Viggle LIVE! users which duo he belonged to, and just about 63% got it right: Pharrell's ongoing collaboration with musician Chad Hugo is called The Neptunes! 21% of you guessed art-rock duo The Mars Volta. An even smaller 16% guessed "Venus in Furs," which is both the name of a Velvet Underground song and the name of the fictional band from the 1998 glam-rock drama Velvet Goldmine.

The Neptunes isn't Pharrell's only collaboration with Chad — the pair joined up with Shay Haley to form N*E*R*D (No one Ever Really Dies), whose debut album, In Search Of… is certified gold by the RIAA.

Pharrell, always a busy guy, has had an especially action-packed year — and it's paid off! He was nominated for seven 2014 Grammy Awards, and got an Oscar nod for for "Happy," which appeared on the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack.
