Mad Men Gets Psychedelic Final Season Poster — by Advertising Legend Milton Glaser

For a show so focused on the world of advertising, Mad Men's own advertising needs to be buzzworthy.

And so AMC and creator Matthew Weiner enlisted a master of the form to create a poster for Season 7 — the final season of the critically-acclaimed AMC drama — jobbing the project out to an 84-year-old graphic designer named Milton Glaser, who's been in the business for six decades.

And just check out that the end result: a psychedelic masterpiece in which a silhouetted, seated, smoking Don Draper — an iconic image from the show's opening titles — seems to be observing (or imagining) a colorful fantasy of women, alcohol, and… flowers?

"There is a dreamlike quality to it, and believe it or not, it is related to the show, and not because it's psychedelic," Matthew Weiner tells The New York Times, referring to Season 7's drug-happy timeframe. "That’s not what it's about. What it's about is the material and the immaterial world, and that's what I loved."

But don't search too hard for clues about the upcoming season, which premieres on April 13. "This is related to the late '60s, which is all I will say about it," Matthew states. "It maintains the idea that this is somehow going on in Don Draper's mind, which is what the story is always about — and what the back of his head is about, on some level."

Matthew was delighted to work with Milton, having grown up admiring the New York-based artist's work — which includes the iconic "I ♥ NY" logo and the rainbow-haired Bob Dylan poster. (He also co-founded New York magazine.)

And Milton says he too had fun with the project, especially because he was so involved and influential in the Mad Men era. "I could have walked in the door of that firm, [Sterling Cooper & Associates]," he says. "I knew those people."
