Grey’s Anatomy Season 9 Finale: Our 5 Favorite Moments

On last night’s Season 9 finale of Grey’s Anatomy, a pretty nasty storm hit Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, sending the ER into complete chaos and ultimately putting both Meredith’s and Richard’s lives into danger. It was a super emotional ride, and while we loved the finale, a few scenes stood out to us among the rest.

Here are our top five favorite moments from the finale:

Meredith meets McBaby. When the episode began, things weren’t looking good for Meredith or the new baby, and we braced ourselves for the worst. Besides the fact that the new member of the Grey/Shepherd family was arriving a bit early, Meredith also faced complications during childbirth and later required surgery to fix her internal bleeding. We were happily surprised when the new baby (who Meredith named Bailey — cue the collective “aww”) turned out to be just fine and seeing him with Meredith, Derek, and Zola together as a family was one of the most perfect moments in the finale.

Jackson makes it out of the bus. One of the most surprising moments in the finale for us was when Jackson tries to save a little girl trapped in an overturned bus about to blow up at any minute — and doesn’t die. This is Grey’s Anatomy, after all, and we’ve been conditioned to assume no one makes it out alive. But Jackson did, and seeing him emerge from the explosion made us feel like we just narrowly escaped death ourselves. Besides, Shonda Rhimes would have received a strongly worded letter from us if Jackson hadn’t made it.

Bailey’s back in action. At the end of last week’s episode (episode 23: “Readiness Is All”), it seemed like Richard’s tough love plan to get Bailey back in the OR was working, and we were ready to see her reunite with a scalpel. So we were pretty bummed when she couldn’t operate. But as soon as she heard Meredith was in bad shape after giving birth, Bailey snapped in the best way. We loved seeing her throwing things around — we knew that old Bailey spirit was still in there somewhere!

Cristina and Derek bond while Meredith’s in surgery. We don’t get a lot of opportunities to see Cristina and Derek interact one-on-one, so it’s pretty special when we do. We loved how they were there for each other while Bailey operated on Meredith — if something happened to her, they would both be equally impacted. One of our favorite lines in the finale was when Cristina turned to Derek and said, “she’s our person.” In the midst of all that tension, it was a really heartwarming moment.

Alex and Jo are finally together. The moment we’ve been waiting for all season has arrived, and after struggling with his feelings for months, Alex was able to tell Jo he loves her. YAY! It was easy to detect the chemistry between Alex and Jo from the moment they met, and we are so excited Alex has finally found happiness. We’re relieved that d-bag Jason is finally out of the picture -- even before we found out he hits girls, he was only an obstacle that eventually brought Alex and Jo together in the end.
