Though we predicted it could be Jackson Avery, as he hasn’t had a near-death experience on the show yet, it seemed more likely that it would be Meredith, Derek, or their son. That was not the case — in fact, Jackson escaped an exploding bus, and we thought he was dead for at least a minute.
Here’s the sitch: a bus flew through the air, rolled over, and set on fire outside of the hospital. Everyone rushed to save the people inside, and they thought they had everyone out. Then a mother screamed that her daughter was still trapped inside, and who volunteered as tribute to save her? Jackson, of course.
After crawling in the rain through a small opening on the bus, in spite of the fact that the vehicle was on the verge of exploding. It was silent until everyone realized Jackson was still in there, and they all started screaming and running toward him — just in time for it to go boom.
It was April who was the most hysterical, screaming, “Jackson! No!” as she lunged toward the bus. Her fiance held her back, and she had a breakdown in his arms (and so did we), but then Jackson waltzed out like a superhero, cradling the young girl as he emerged from the flames. Phew. He’s safe!
April proceeded to scream at Jackson, demanding, “What is wrong with you?!” and punching him, clearly beside herself with emotions. But as portrayer Sarah Drew teased, it led to her questioning if Matthew was the right one for her, and ultimately, she realized she’s in love with Jackson.
In a Japril moment for the record books, she ran into Jackson’s hospital room to proclaim her feelings. “I want you, Jackson," she admitted. “I know I haven’t been fair to you. I’ve really hurt you. When that bus exploded, I thought you were gone."
“You’re getting married...” Jackson trailed off, to which April responded, “Unless you can give me a reason not to.” There was no big kiss after, but we have a feeling all of that will come in Season 10.
