Second Aaliyah Biopic in the Works to Hit Theaters in 2015 — Report

It looks like biopics of our favorite musicians are in trend these days and late singer Aaliyah appears to be a pretty hot commodity. Not too long after news broke about Wendy Williams reigniting production on the halted Aaliyah Lifetime production, Sister 2 Sister reports that there is another Aaliyah biopic in the works, slated to hit theaters in late 2015!

As you know, Aaliyah’s family wasn’t too happy about the news of Aaliyah’s life being relegated to television.

“We feel like [television's] really not the right platform,” said Jomo Hankerson, Aaliyah’s cousin and former label president as he talked on The Ryan Cameron Morning Show. “Aaliyah was a legend. She was a hugely influential artist on our culture… I think that she deserves the treatment of a Walk The Line [about Johnny Cash] or a What’s Love Got To Do With It? [about Tina Turner]. A big, major movie.”

Well, it looks like the family’s wishes are about to come true. And to make an extra special treat, a source close to the feature film production says that the movie will include Aaliyah’s recorded music, in addition to never-before-released music as well. Wait, what?! Last time we checked, this was one of the problems the Lifetime movie adaptation was having (and reportedly caused first choice Zendaya Coleman to walk away from the project).

“We’re in a position where we can do the feature film and we can do the music,” said the source.

The source went on to claim that actress/singer B. Simone has been cast to play the “Rock the Boat” songstress and that they have been in talks with several heavy hitters to co-star, including Terrence Howard and Wood Harris.

Rounding out the crew is erotic fiction author Zane, who will reportedly be writing the script, and Aaliyah’s uncle and former manager, Barry Hankerson, who will be working on the project.

Of course the sounds too good to be true — especially since B. Simone hasn’t made any mention of the news on social media and since, well, the rest of Aaliyah’s family hasn’t said much of anything. But according to the source, the feature film will not interfere with the made-for-TV movie.

“I think if we do our due-diligence, people will watch the TV movie and still say, ‘I need to see the feature film,’” the source said.

Hmm… we’ll just have to keep our eyes and ears peeled to see if this second film is actually going to happen.

Do you think there will be an Aaliyah feature film hitting the theaters? Would you see the big screen film or the made-for-TV movie? Tell us your thoughts below!
