Selena Gomez’s New Movie, “Getaway,” May Be Worst Reviewed of All Time
Talk about a dubious honor, but Selena Gomez’s new movie may get quite the nod — for being the worst-reviewed film of all time. The site RottenTomatoes.com aggregates reviews from critics and viewers, and so far Getaway has a really incredible score: 0%.
What does that mean? Basically zero percent of critics wish the movie, co-starring Ethan Hawke, on viewers. But although there are currently 56 reviews and the score remains, it has quite a ways to go before it claims the “throne.”
The current #1 seed is Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever, from 2002, starring Antonio Banderas and Lucy Liu. It holds 108 reviews, each of which tell viewers to stay far far away. While many critics couldn’t stop pointing out the terrible elements of the movie, Richard Roeper said simply, “One of the worst movies of the year.”
As for Getaway, a story about a retired race car driver and his young hacker ally who helps him try and recover his wife after she’s kidnapped, the reviews are certainly not glowing. A New York Post critic says, humorously, "Getaway" is so bad that what's most surprising about it is that Nicolas Cage didn't manage to star in it.” The Boston Globe says, “It's hard to remember another action entry that expends so much energy on frenetic blacktop choreography and attention-deficit editing with so little to show for it.”
Still, Selena packs plenty of star power, and 87% of the over ten thousand non-critic reviews said they want to see it when it comes out tomorrow, August 30. Will you go? Weigh in below.
