UPDATE (9/14/17 at 3:34 p.m. ET): 

The Weeknd stood by Selena Gomez’s side during her kidney transplant.

According to People, the singer scheduled his tour around her surgery and made sure he was there for the procedure. 

“It was a super serious operation and all her friends were worried,” a source shared.

Selena Gomez had good reason to take time off over the summer.

The pop star, who suffers from lupus, just revealed she underwent a kidney transplant.

The side effects of the autoimmune disease damaged her organs so much she was told by doctors she needed a transplant ASAP.

Thankfully, the “Good For You” songstress found a willing donor in friend and actress Francia Raisa.

After it was confirmed the Secret Life of the American Teenager star was a match, the successful operation and transplant took place.

The “Hands To Myself” hitmaker took to her Instagram account to reveal the ordeal with her 126 million followers, sharing a photo of her and Francia holding hands in their hospital beds.

"I'm very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn't promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of,” she wrote.

“So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus [sic] and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health.”

The 25-year-old recently released two songs, “Bad Liar” and “Fetish.”

“I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you,” she shared.

“Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren't words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa."

She continued, “She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.

In 2015, the brunette beauty revealed she had been suffering from complications relating to lupus, an illness that attacks your healthy tissues and your organs.

She also took a career break in 2016 to deal with anxiety and depression.

Despite her health struggles, the singer is back to work on her next project, an untitled Woody Allen film, which is taking place in New York.

The movie also stars Jude Law, Timothée Chalamet, Elle Fanning, Diego Luna, and Liev Schreiber.
