If there was any doubt Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato aren’t the besties they appear to be, get this: Selena once showed up at a recovery group meeting just to provide Demi moral support as she shared some highly emotional details from her recovery.
TMZ reports the news, though it’s unclear when the meeting took place. Demi originally checked into rehab back in 2010 and lived in a sober house for at least a year. Today, she continues to successful face down her demons, and it’s likely she still attends meetings to help stay on track. Because no specific date is given, it’s possible that Selena may have joined Demi at a recent group meeting.
During her hour-long speech, Demi reportedly shared some very personal stories about her struggles with eating disorders, self-harm, and bipolarism, making us even more glad Selena was in the audience to root her former Barney co-star on!
Even in the early days of her treatment, Demi says she wanted to be a vocal advocate for others seeking help. At the time, she and her parents discussed the options facing them post-rehab.
“We can say it’s a personal time and we don’t have to tell them what you’re in here for, or we can just be 100 percent honest and show them that you can get through it and other people can get through it, too,” Demi recently told told Nylon magazine of the family’s talk.
Obviously Demi opted for transparency, sharing the details of her recovery in her numerous interviews, her personal work, and, most recently, her best-selling book, Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year.
And from the sounds of it, Selena’s making sure Demi stays strong. You girls rock!
