Selena Gomez is out there fighting for the females, and she’s on the side of anyone who believes in the cause — even if they aren’t her biggest fan.

When Seventeen talked to Selena about girl power on their Youtube channel — and which rising star she thinks has it — she was quick to list Lorde as a star she sees as very powerful, even though they don’t exactly see eye to eye.

“There is one artist that I think is very powerful. She doesn’t really like me, and that’s all right, but her name’s Lorde,” Selena said. “She’s really cool. I do think her message is very powerful. She’s very young, but she’s got a lot to say, and that’s great. So more power to her.”

Lorde does have a lot to say — like how she feels Selena’s hit single, “Come And Get It” is the ultimate anti-feminist jam… and how she’s “sick of women being portrayed this way.” Ouch!

Selena’s attitude toward Lorde is kind of exactly how the world at large feels about the 17-year-old “Royals” singer: even though she doesn’t like us, we think she’s cool and desperately want to sit at her lunch table. Please be friends with us, Lorde! Even if you think we are setting the women’s movement back a few decades by loving a song about boys coming to get it when they’re ready!

Also, we can’t help but feel a little awkward about this video, considering the fact that Selena’s BFF, Taylor Swift, has quickly become besties with the recent Grammy winner. Don’t get us wrong — there’s nothing we don’t love about Selena getting a little sassy after someone’s talked smack about her music, but maybe she could have talked about Lorde inspiring her without bringing up their feud again? Just a thought.

We have a dream where we live in a world where the reigning princesses of pop all hold hands and gather for tea and antique shopping and let bygones be bygones. We can only imagine the unstoppable trio that would form if Selena, Taylor, and Lorde all joined forces.

Sigh. Maybe someday.
