The good news is that Selena Gomez seems to read her fans's Instagram comments, and she's willing to step in to chide people for taking things too far. The bad news for one of those fans is she just got called out for apparently wishing cancer on someone.
Selena screen-captured her response to the commenter, and shared it with this intro note on Instagram: "Honestly, I don't speak up much because it's simply *always* taken out of context. But I don't take bullying well. I have seen too much to not say anything."
Here's what Selena wrote to the original poster:
"The comment you left about cancer was absurd. How distasteful of a young woman. I have gone through that battle with fans and family members. You can dislike someone but to wish something that could happen to you or your family is uncalled for sweetheart. You won't be winning 'anyone's' heart that way. Trust me. Educate yourself a tad more. God bless love. Be an amazing woman. You're beautiful."
Good for her for speaking out (complete with “sweetheart” and “love” shade). She doesn't do it very often — even though her name is out there a lot, usually connected to Justin Bieber or other pop stars like Miley Cyrus, etc. — but she picked a good topic to address. It's pretty much the height of Internet immaturity to wish illness and death on others, even if the trolling is never meant seriously. If we put our minds to the test, surely we can come up with more intelligent, thoughtful ways of insulting each other online … since it’s probably unrealistic to think we can all just get along.
