Ian Somerhalder Is So #Selfie-ish in New Chainsmokers Music Video
Vampire Diariesstar Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore) is a pretty generous guy. He used his fame and money to create the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, a non-profit geared toward promoting green energy solutions, the development of species-safe sterilization for animals, and giving America’s youth a voice. But even he has his selfish moments — or should we say “selfie-ish”? Check out Ian’s appearance in The Chainsmoker’s killer music video.
“All i gotta say is my brother @ReviloPark made me do it :) I'm usually not this #Selfie-ish: #GenLike #letmetakeaselfie,” Ian tweeted, along with a link to the music video featuring a selfie from our favorite vampire philanthropist — along with about a billion other selfies. The video from the New York-based electronic dance music duo is a somewhat silly critique of selfie culture, following some superficial young women on their night out clubbing.
“Can you guys help me pick a filter?” one of the video’s vapid clubbers asks her friend as they stare in the mirror. “I can’t decide if I should go with XXPro or Valencia. I wanna look tan. What should my caption be? I want it to be clever ... I only got 10 likes in the last 10 minutes. Do you think I should take it down?”
The video continues on in this manner, poking fun at the selfie subculture by showing an exaggerated version of it. The vid also contains montages of real people’s selfies, which is where Ian comes in. His face is in one of the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it snapshots that flashes across the screen. Other famous people to lend their selfies to the video: David Hasselhoff and Snoop Dogg. Yeah, it’s a pretty eclectic group. Check it out:
The Chainsmoker’s explain their process for collecting selfies in the description of the YouTube video: “When we were creating this video we wanted to gather as many #SELFIE's as we could from friends, fans, celebrities and other types that were willing to take part, so we put in a call for action and received thousands of amazing #SELFIES from so many amazing and funny ppl. We tried to pack in as many as possible, so try find yourself, and if you don't at first, try watch it again and pls comment and share the video!”
