Serena Williams Reveals Daughter’s Name and First Photo
Two weeks after she gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Serena Williams has revealed the tot’s unique name and released her first pictures.
Named after her father, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, Serena introduced Alexis Olympia Ohanian, Jr. to the world on Instagram with the following caption:
"Meet Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. You have to check out link in bio [sic] for her amazing journey. Also check out my IG stories."
Featured on her website, the 35-year-old Grand Slam winner, posted a video of her pregnancy journey.
In it, both she and Alexis Sr. created short clips of video messages to their daughter while she developed in her mother's womb.
The happy couple depicted what it was like to do parenting classes together and even showed off Serena's swollen ankles.
They also created clips of the renowned tennis athlete visiting her old stomping grounds in Compton, California, where she was raised as a child and trained for tennis.
At the end of the video, Serena revealed there were complications during the delivery and Alexis, Jr. had to stay at the hospital for an extended amount of time before she could come home.
“It’s been a long time. We had a lot of complications but look what we got, we got a baby girl,” she said in the video.
The beautiful infant was born on September 1, weighing 6 pounds and 14 ounces.
Before giving birth, Serena interviewed with Vogue, sharing her fears about becoming a working mother.
"It’s hard to figure out what the end of your tennis career should look like. I used to think I’d want to retire when I have kids, but no. I’m definitely coming back," she said.
"Walking out there and hearing the crowd, it may seem like nothing. But there’s no better feeling in the world."
When asked about Alexis, Sr. she revealed he's the type of person she'd tell her friends to go after.
"He’s extremely smart but not a know-it-all. He’s curious about what he doesn’t know.
“Being a Jehovah’s Witness is important to me, but I’ve never really practiced it and have been wanting to get into it.
“Alexis didn’t grow up going to any church, but he’s really receptive and even takes the lead. He puts my needs first," Serena said about his character.
As for the wedding, the Reddit founder plans to recast his late mother's ring for Serena but they haven't decided on a date yet.
