Glee Series Finale Is Unknown, But Ryan Murphy Promises it Will Be “Emotional”

Filming for Glee Season 6 officially starts next week, and even though we won’t get to watch any of the episodes until 2015 (an exact premiere date hasn’t been announced) we have a feeling the cast and crew will be done shooting the 13-episode season before we know it. Given the truncated season we were a bit surprised to hear that show co-creator Ryan Murphy doesn’t know exactly how the series will end.

At the Emmy Awards earlier this week, Ryan opened up about the series finale to The Hollywood Reporter noting that he once knew how the show would conclude, but now things are less clear. “I did. I don't anymore, but I think it will be emotional,” he said of the finale.

Ryan has spoken candidly about how he wanted Glee to end — with Rachel (Lea Michele) returning to Finn (Cory Monteith) in Lima and “having a happy ending and them both getting their dreams” — but in light of Cory’s death last year, all of that obviously has to be reworked. As Ryan explained, “The fact that that can't be is a big pain in all of our hearts.”

Ryan and the other Powers That Be may not have a complete series finale in mind just yet, but they certainly have big plans for Season 6 as a whole. For starters, we’re expected to meet five new McKinley High students, Karofsky is coming back to potentially break up Blaine (Darren Criss) and Kurt (Chris Colfer), and rumor has it both Vocal Adrenaline and The Warblers will have new leaders — with familiar faces!

Glee Season 6 is expected to debut in 2015.
