After a controversial turn as host of the 2013 Oscars, it looks like Seth MacFarlane will be going back to a safer place, far, far away from live television.
The Family Guy creator revealed on Monday that he won’t be returning to host the show again this year, although he maintains that the decision has nothing to do with his outrageous on-screen antics at the 2013 show.
“Traumatized critics exhale: I'm unable to do the Oscars again. Tried to make it work schedule-wise, but I need sleep,” he Tweeted.
While Seth’s hosting duties didn’t receive the blanket seal of disapproval bestowed upon some hosts, like Anne Hathaway and James Franco, his over-the-top show, which included an ode to bare breasts in cinema and some tasteless jokes about George Clooney’s dating preferences, had many calling for his hosting invitation to be rescinded.
As for who he thinks should replace him, Seth joked, “My suggestion for host is Joaquin Phoenix.”
