2013’s Sexiest Man Alive Adam Levine — 5 Reasons Why He Deserved to Win
There’s always a little blowback after People announces their annual Sexiest Man Alive, and this year is no different. Maroon 5 frontman and The Voice host Adam Levine has nabbed the 2013 title, and while some aren’t fully on board with the choice, we beg to differ.
Here are five reasons why this bad boy of pop is totally worthy of the honor.
1. He’s a reformed ladies man
Running through a laundry list of starlets and models — Jessica Simpson, Cameron Diaz, a Victoria’s Secret model or two — landed Adam quite the reputation as a womanizer. But those days are long gone for the singer, who proposed to model Behati Prinsloo last July. Prior to his engagement, Adam stated on The Tonight Show that marriage wasn’t in his future, but he was forced to eat his words just last month when he appeared on the show.
"Famous last words, 'I'll never get married,'" he said. "I still don't necessarily think you have to get married unless you meet someone that makes you want to marry them. And then you marry them and it's wonderful."
2. He supports his friends
Adam's bromance with fellow The Voice judge Blake Shelton is one of our favorite relationships to watch on TV each week. After his People cover was announced live on the show, Blake voiced his frustration. “This is why I drink so much,” the country star joked. “He stole my thunder!”
Adam responded reassuringly: “You’re the sexiest man in my book.”
While some may recall the nearly-nude photo Adam took for Cosmo UK a couple of years back, they may not remember that it was all for a good cause. The singer stripped down to raise awareness forprostate and testicular cancer. And the hands covering his private bits? Those of his then girlfriend, model Anne V, which somehow makes it even sweeter.
4. He’s an ally of the LGBT community
Adam, who has a gay brother, has been a longtime vocal supporter of the LGBT community, once tellingMTV that the first thing he would do if he were president would be to legalize gay marriage. “The fact that gay marriage isn’t legal everywhere at this point is a joke,” he said in Out magazine.
Forget the meatheads who pump iron. Who doesn’t want a man who will join you in spin class or at yoga? In his interview with People for the special issue, Adam shared his secret for staying fit: “I did yoga a few years ago and fell in love immediately. I just abandoned weight lifting. On show days I’ll do a little spinning and some yoga and go onstage.”
