It’s hardly the Oscars or the Met Gala, but still, People Magazine’s annual Sexiest Man Alive award is an event most pop culture fans look forward to.

Hunky actors like Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and George Clooney have been obvious — and multiple — winners in the past.

So, when this year’s winner was revealed to be Blake Shelton, let’s just say some people weren’t too happy.

“Blake Shelton is about as sexy as a gluten-free saltine cracker,” one critic said. Ouch.

In fact the country crooner himself even commented, “Y’all must be running out of people.” And we have to say, we tend to agree.

The 41-year-old went on to credit his girlfriend, Gwen Stefani, for forcing him to accept the award and said that, while very flattered, he can’t wait to use it to rub it in fellow Voice judge (and previous winner) Adam Levine's face.

Talking to People he said, “She goes, ‘Listen to me, you’re going to regret this for the rest of your life if you don’t take this gift and just live in the moment."

He added, “I can't wait to shove this up Adam's ass. As proud as I am and honored that you guys asked me, that’s really the only thing I care about."

Though the Oklaoma native did have some fans who embraced the decision, others took to Twitter in droves to voice their disgust.

Here are some of the funniest:

There was one person who was a huge fan of the decision — Blake's girlfriend of two years Gwen Stefani of course.

The 48-year-old said, “He’s perfect for it.

"Somebody that is funny and has a sense of humor is sexy — that’s the number one thing.

“[He’s] somebody that is at the top of their game and talented and genuine and cool and generous and just not self-aware at all — completely a man.”
