Ready for an insight into the Secret Life of the American Movie Star? Shailene Woodley has too much on her plate these days, it seems!
As she hit up the Sundance Film Festival this week to promote her new thriller, White Bird in a Blizzard, MTV News asked the 22-year-old actress if she might pop up as Mary Jane Watson in future installments of the new Spider-Man franchise — after her scenes were cut from May's The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
"I don't know anything," she replied, as you can see in the video below. "But seeing as how they picked up the next two Divergent films, I don't know how I would keep my sanity with two big action films in one year. But anything can happen, so…"
In case you missed it, Shailene was cast as M.J. in late 2012 and filmed three scenes for the second movie in March 2013. Then, in June, director Marc Webb announced that he had cut her storyline from the script as "a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter [Andrew Garfield] and Gwen [Emma Stone] and their relationship."
(Kirsten Dunst played Mary Jane in the 2000s-era Spider-Man films— the love interest of Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker — but Gwen is Pete's leading lady in the reboot.)
"Of course I'm bummed," Shailene told Entertainment Weekly at the time. "But I'm a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason … Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand holding off on introducing [Mary Jane] until the next film."
But don't cry for Shailene, America — she, of course, is primed to be a major action star with the March release of Divergent, the film adaptation of the hit YA novel series. Plus, she's starring in the movie adaptation of another YA smash, June's The Fault in Our Stars.
Who needs nosy web-slingers, anyway?
