Taylor Swift Brushes Off Haters in New Song “Shake It Off” — She’s Going Pop! (VIDEO)
August 18 will forever be known as the day Taylor Swift took over the internet. The 24-year-old singer held a Yahoo! livestream from New York City and teased three announcements — and she did not disappoint. Not only did she drop a new single with an accompanying music video, but she announced that she was officially ditching country music for a new pop direction.
“This is my very first official, documented pop album,” Taylor revealed when discussing her fifth album, aptly titled 1989 after the year she was born.
As for what served as the inspiration for her new direction, Taylor admitted that she turned to the past for support — specifically the 1980s. “I loved the chances they were taking,” the singer dished to a lucky group of fans who attended the live event. “It was apparently a time of limitless potential … The idea of that was so inspiring to me.”
Taylor debuted the new single at first with a little dance party with the audience and then shocked us all with a music video to accompany it. The best part about the whole thing, though? She totally acknowledged all the hate she gets from critics who diss her dancing at award shows.
"The idea I came up with … I had to learn a pretty tough lesson in the past couple of years, that people can say anything they want about us at any time and we cannot control it," she said. "You can descend into insanity over it if you want. Option two is you can just shake it off."
So when should you expect the new album? You’ll have to wait until October 27, but you can already pre-order the regular version or the deluxe edition on TaylorSwift.com — but you’ll probably want to get the deluxe option because it comes with what we’d like to call Taylor Swift trading cards. Till then, we’ll just keep hitting replay on YouTube and dancing our socks off.
