Shannen Doherty Gets Emotional As She Reveals Cancer Has Spread
Shannen Doherty’s cancer has spread.
"I had breast cancer that spread to the lymph nodes,” the 45-year-old told Entertainment Tonight.
“And from one of my surgeries we discovered that some of the cancer cells might have actually gone out of the lymph nodes."
To battle her breast cancer — which she was diagnosed with in February 2015 — Shannen had a single mastectomy.
After the surgery, doctors noticed cancer cells were protruding out of a lymph node.
"So for that reason, we are doing chemo, and then after chemo, I'll do radiation," the veteran actress continued, saying she’s above Stage 2 cancer.
Although the Charmed alum believes living without a breast is “manageable,” other consequences from her treatment are not.
"The unknown is always the scariest part," she admitted. "Is the chemo going to work? Is the radiation going to work? Am I going to have to go through this again, or am I going to get secondary cancer?”
It seems the TV star is trying to focus on the positive during her medical struggles, like her reconstructive breast surgery from the same doctor who performed Angelina Jolie’s.
"He didn't want me to wake up with absolutely nothing," Brenda Walsh’s portrayer said, beginning to smile.
“So, he put an expander in, so I have a tiny something there. It's cute and sometimes we fill it up and make it bigger, and sometimes we reduce it.”
Stay strong, Shannen!
