They tied at the top with Elizabeth Berkley and Val Chmerkovskiy in Week 6, and tied with Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff in Week 7, but when you combine the scores, Amber and Derek stand alone. This is not their first time at the top, either — they even launched the season with three 9s, which is almost unheard of on DWTS.
No one is more surprised about this success than Amber. "I am genuinely shocked I am doing as well as I am," Amber told People. "But I'm the type of person that if I feel something is going to defeat me, I am going to want to do it [even more]."
Amber’s also doing well when it comes to the health benefits of DWTS. She told People she hasn’t been focusing on weight loss, but she noticed her clothes are fitting differently and her arms are getting smaller. Amber also noted that she dropped two dress sizes after changing her diet last year. "There are a lot of plus-size [fashion] lines, but there really is not a lot to choose from. And I'm not the type of person who likes to wear what everyone else is wearing," she told People. "Being a little smaller does open up your closet to new choices, but it has made my spending a little worse."
Do you think Amber and Derek have a good shot at winning this season? They definitely seem on a path to make the Finals. It would be Derek’s fifth Mirror Ball trophy. Yeah it would be Amber’s one and only — and she’s the focus — but if Derek wins again, will it just seem like whoever he’s paired with is automatically advanced to the head of the winner class?
