Grey’s Anatomy: Shonda Rhimes Planned All of Season 1 in One Weekend

Shonda Rhimes: veteran TV writer-producer, mother of three, and Wonder Woman? Just when we think that the 44-year-old mastermind behind Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Scandal, and now How to Get Away With Murder can't get any more impressive, we learn something new.

This time, we're learning from a profile of Shonda in Adweek that she thought out the entire first season of Grey's in one weekend. One weekend.

It was early 2005, and the cast and crew had just wrapped the production of the pilot episode. ABC then asked Shonda to present synopses of the next eight episodes the very next week.

ABC had offered the TV newbie a veteran showrunner, exec producer James Parriott, who offered to split that weekend's work.

But Shonda politely declined his help. James tells AdWeek that he expected a cry for help from Shonda at some point on Saturday or Sunday… but that said cry never came. On Monday, Shonda presented ABC with synopses for Episode 2 through 9.

"In that small amount of time, she had written these brilliant, witty, wonderful one-page summations — and not just fast, but good, really superb," Jams remembers. "I knew right then that she had it."

We guess we shouldn't be surprised — Shonda can do it all!
