Glee is known for covering the hottest songs of today, as well as some old favorites (think the Beatles and Billy Joel) — and the occasional show tune. But every once in a while, the Fox dramedy goes into uncharted territory and has the cast perform original songs that were written specifically for the show.
Longtime Glee fans may remember that we got our first taste of theses original tunes way back in Season 2. Mercedes (Amber Riley) belted out the anthemic “Hell to the No” in Episode 16, while Rachel (Lea Michele) delivered an epic performance of her ballad “Get it Right” during regionals. That song then segued into the much more upbeat group number, “Loser Like Me.” At nationals that year we were treated to “Light Up the World” and “Pretending” — the latter of which ended with Finn (Cory Monteith) and Rachel’s passionate kiss, costing the New Directions the national championship.
We’ve had a few other original tracks along the way, but during the April 8 episode, we got an extra-special treat courtesy of Mercedes who sang a flawless rendition of her song, “Colorblind”. In honor of Mercedes’ new original song, we asked Viggle LIVE users if they prefer these unique tracks over the more common covers Glee is known for. The results are in so check ‘em out below!

34 percent of those who responded said Glee should do more original songs because they are “in love” with them, but the majority of you — 66 percent to be exact — felt that the musical drama should stick to covering other artists’ songs because they are “the best”.
Personally, we loved “Colorblind” but admit that the original tunes can be hit or miss. Then again, the same applies to the covers. Do you agree that Glee should focus on covering songs that already exist, or are you hankering for something a little more unique? Tell us how you feel below!
