Should Game of Thrones End as a Movie? You Tell Us!

A Song of Ice and Fire author George R. R. Martin seems to be looking for more time. Martin is in serious danger of having his story be told before he can write it, as Game of Thrones is on track to surpass his books possibly by the end of Season 5. It's no surprise that he keeps floating the idea of a movie to conclude the series, which could give him a couple extra years of writing time.

Martin’s most recent suggestion of this idea comes to us in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “I don’t think [GoT’s planned seven seasons] will be enough to tell the story we’re telling in the books,” Martin says. “Ever since I heard [of ending the series with a movie] I’ve been both excited by it — I think it would be great — and I’ve been skeptical about it because I’ve heard of a number of other shows that were [supposedly going to have movies] like Deadwood, Rome, and even The Sopranos, and the only one I’ve actually seen is Sex and the City.” Wait... Martin’s seen the Sex and the City movie?

While a movie to end the series could be pretty cool thanks to a bigger budget, it also seems very unlikely. With the story structure of Game of Thrones, with virtually every main character being in a different location, we just don’t see how a movie could do the story justice. Unless every character ends up in the same location at the conclusion of the series, which we certainly hope for, but doesn’t seem likely given the history of the story so far.

What do you think? Should Game of Thrones end in a movie, or a series of movies?

A movie's a great idea!

I movie is a terrible idea.
