Should Sam Woolf Have Gone Home on American Idol 2014?
Last night, American Idol said goodbye to Sam Woolf — although it tried really hard not to. We’re sad to see cutie pie Sam go, too, but we predicted it. Weeks ago, we would’ve called the Season 13 Top 4 would be made up of Jess, Jena, Caleb, and Alex, and that’s just the way that things turned out. Sorry, Sam.
Sam’s performances this week were better than they’ve ever been especially when he took on Ed Sheeran’s “Sing.” But his progress didn’t happen quickly enough in the season, and he gave some of the weakest performances of the crop over all. Because of that, Sam was the clear choice to send home this week as he just wasn’t performing at the same level of his competitors.
However, that twist the Idol folks threw in at the last minute? Was that a little suspicious, or is that just us?
It seems to us that the show — whether that be the judges, the producers, or Fox execs — has been trying really hard to turn Sam into a superstar and keep him around. First, the judges used their save on him, and that alone isn’t enough to raise eyebrows. But then this option that would allow everyone to stay on another week just before Sam’s about to be eliminated again? Seems fishy.
The plan backfired, obviously, but it’s worth thinking about. Either way, Sam is talented and has a growing fan following if he really wants to take his music career somewhere. A future in the recording industry seems to be Sam’s for the taking, if he decides to put the extra elbow grease in to catch up in the areas he’s lacking. Will he choose to stay in the spotlight? We’ll find out soon enough!
Was it Sam’s time to go, or did you think someone else should have been eliminated?
