Former Walking Dead Showrunner Glen Mazzara Developing Omen Series For Lifetime

The Walking Dead is on its fifth season and third showrunner — and while the original showrunner, Frank Darabont, is trying to sue the network for millions of dollars of profits he believes he is owed, his immediate successor, Glen Mazzara, has a different agenda.

Glenn was in charge of TWD for the later half of Season 2 and again in Season 3, but like Frank before him, he was unceremoniously canned by AMC on less-than-ideal terms. Instead of being bitter a là Frank, however, Glen has moved past his TWD days and will soon tackle another high-profile horror project.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Glen is developing an follow-up to the film The Omen for Lifetime. Glen’s new project is called Damien, and THR describes it as follows: “The drama centers on the film's young boy Damien Thorn. Now an adult and haunted by his past, Damien is faced with a series of macabre events and must finally face his true destiny: He is the Antichrist.” Yeah, that certainly sounds like a haunted past to us.

Glen will write the script and executive-produce the series with his 44 Strong Productions. This will be his first television gig since getting let go by the TWD team after Season 3, and it also marks his latest movie-to-TV adaptation, though we should note that he is currently working on a feature called Overlook Hotel, which is a prequel to the Stephen King classic The Shining.

Though Damien may seem like a strange fit for Lifetime’s predominantly female audience, THR points out that with shows like Witches of East End, the network has slowly been pushing further into the ever-popular horror genre.

Will you be checking out Damien on Lifetime? Tell us your plans below!
