What Shows Will Compete Against Grey’s Anatomy in Its New Timeslot?

Now that Grey’s Anatomy has officially been moved to 8 p.m. EST on Thursdays, the ratings game has totally changed. A lot about how well a show does has to do with its timeslot, and the earlier time is not necessarily desirable for a show with the kind of content Grey’s has to offer. After all, 8 p.m. shows are traditionally more family friendly.

But creator Shonda Rhimes has assured us that nothing about Grey’s will change because of the time it airs, so we don’t have to worry about that. What we do have to worry about? The shows Grey’s has to compete with in its new timeslot, which has been so clearly outlined for our examination thanks to Entertainment Weekly.

The biggest contender for Grey’s? The crazy popular Vampire Diaries, which reaches a the same demographic as our favorite show. For many, one of the two shows is going to have to be DVR-ed. The Big Bang Theory is another big one that airs at the same time as Grey’s, but occasionally, Big Bang will be replaced by Thursday Night Football — which we have a feeling won’t affect Grey’s viewers at all.

And finally, Grey's will also clash with the Fox hit Bones, which brings in about 6.26 million viewers, while Grey’s season finale saw 8.6 million.

Another factor that bodes well for Grey’s? The finale upped the show’s viewership by 10 percent, which is very good news. And high viewership is essential to getting what we want most: A show that never, ever has to end.

Do one of your other favorite shows conflict with the new timeslot for Grey’s? Which show will you record and which will you watch live?
