The rumors are true! Simon Cowell says he does plan to return to The X Factor UK.

“I will at some point,” Simon tells UK publication Metro about returning to the show. “I still miss that. I mean that show is my baby and that last year we did which was the One Direction year was the most fun I’ve had. It was fantastic. When I look back at the clips now and remind myself about it, it was a really cool year that.”

Much cooler than the year X Factor USA is currently having. Season 3 of the American counterpart to the UK original has suffered poor ratings, leading some critics to advise the show never see 2014.

Although Simon didn’t share when he might make his eventual return to X Factor UK, there’s no rush for him to make the jump. The show was just renewed for three more years (along with Simon’s other darling, Britain’s Got Talent) and Simon’s brimming with ways to make sure the series stays strong.

“I’ve got some ideas of how the show is going to evolve,” he says. “That’s the fun of producing these shows; you can’t just make the same show that you did five years ago.”

One of the ways he may jazz up his pet project: by adding new talent to the judging panel. Sharon Osbourne and Gary Barlow have already announced their plans to depart, leaving two vacant spots. Among the names of potential candidates is Cheryl Cole, whom Simon famously fired from the US version back in Season 1. But that’s ancient history now, Mr. Nasty assures Metro.

“Cheryl and I patched up our differences a long time ago,” he says. “I saw her recently, we speak a lot on the phone and text each other, and I think both of us would like the idea of working together again.”

That’s good news seeing as they may be sitting next to each other on a regular basis before long.
