Singer Keyshia Cole is currently working her way up the music charts with two singles and an album on the way, but when it comes to her family life, things appear to be hitting a sour note. Not only are Keyshia and her husband, Daniel “Boobie” Gibson, on the rocks, but the Oakland native revealed on The Breakfast Club radio show that things with her biological mother are chaotic and it all makes it “difficult to be happy.”
“Am I genuinely happy? I don’t know. It’s a little difficult to be happy right now,” Keyshia confessed to radio host Charlamagne.
While promoting her new single, “Next Time (Won’t Give My Heart Away),” the singer dodged questions about her rumored divorce. “I just want to put my music out and just sit in my own craziness… and chill out for a minute,” she said. “Like I don’t really know what I want to do right now and I don’t really want to talk about it. I don’t want to go into it.”
Keyshia added that their relationship mostly consists of co-parenting their son, D.J., stating, “8:30 he comes to take D.J. to school every morning, and I pick him up.”
As for her biological mom, Frankie, Keyshia admitted that she’s made it a point to keep the “chaos” with her mother away from her son. “I don’t want that around him,” she said. “I want to protect him from that kind of chaos.
“I haven’t even spoken to my mom, Frankie, in a minute,” she added. “She doesn’t have my number.”
Keyshia didn’t appear to think much of the idea of a reconciliation with her husband, and wanted to avoid the questions for the sake of her son. But while she admitted she doesn’t believe there is anyone out there for her, she did manage to say she still has hope.
When host Angela Yee asked if Keyshia could see the light at the end of the tunnel, the Cali singer said, “Always. Always.”
