Single Mom Confronts McDonald’s Exec Over Wages: “I Can’t Afford Shoes For My Kids”
An angry single mom has given a top McDonald’s executive a piece of her mind, and she did not ask him if he wanted fries with that!
Nancy Salgado, a single mother with two children, has worked for McDonald’s for over ten years. Her current wage is $8.25 an hour. Labor groups have been vigorously working for a livable wage for fast food workers for the last year, while top brass at McDonald’s argue that they already pay above the federally mandated minimum of $7.25 an hour.
At a recent press conference in Chicago, Salgado vocally gave the McDonald’s U.S.A. President Jeff Stratton a piece of her mind, and was arrested and fined for her trouble. Salgado yelled, “It’s really hard for me to feed my two kids. Do you think that’s fair?” adding, “I can’t afford shoes for my kid because of McDonald’s poverty wages. It’s just not fair.”
Stratton’s only response to the single mom’s questions were, “I’ve been here for 40 years.” With more and more moms trying to make ends meet on minimum wage, this is one debate that clearly isn’t over.
