As if we needed another reason to love Lisa Vanderpump, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star is taking a stance against the anti-gay laws the Sultan of Brunei has implemented in his country. Why is this reality star getting involved in this debate — besides the fact that she’s one of the biggest LGBT advocates out there? Turns out the Sultan owns the iconic Beverly Hills Hotel.
“As a huge spokesperson and advocate for the LGBT community and supporter of equal rights, I find it devastating,” Lisa told KNBC, via RumorFix. “It’s like a home from home, but unfortunately I just don’t feel I can support any of this man’s business ventures with what’s come out.”
What Lisa is referring to is the revelation that the Sultan has put forth laws in his home country that require homosexuals to be stoned to death. It’s causing quite an outrage in the 90210 these days, and many are boycotting the venue and protesting that the Sultan put the 102-year-old hotel up for sale.
Apparently the hotel has already lost $1.5 million in event cancellations because of the drama going on, with the city and many other celebs speaking out in disgust.
We’re not really surprised at Lisa’s vocal opposition to what’s going on. The 53-year-old is currently in the process of opening up a gay bar, PUMP, where she has already been ordained and is looking forward to performing same-sex marriages. Quite the revolutionary, this one.
