We’re used to some pretty intense arguments on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, but the quarrel we saw in last night’s episode over different parenting styles seemed to come out of nowhere, and it isn’t exactly dying down just yet.
The drama began when Cynthia Bailey and NeNe Leakes once again got on the topic of Noelle’s — Cynthia’s 14-year-old daughter — dating life. Earlier on in the season Cynthia agreed to let her daughter “date”, but she insisted on meeting Noelle’s boyfriend, Arthur, and his mom first. Cyn also noted that the young lovebirds usually just catch a movie, and are always dropped off and picked up by a parent.
But when the conversation strayed off course and NeNe mentioned other young girls she often sees in short skirts twerking at the mall, Cynthia broke down in tears and ran out of the room. Porsha Stewart and Kenya Moore went off to comfort her, while the other ladies stayed in the dining room and continued the conversation, at which point Phaedra Parks mentioned to the Bravo cameras that NeNe had problems with her own son in the past. Uh-oh..
Naturally, this didn’t sit well with NeNe and she went off on Phaedra in a new post on her website, NeNeLeakesOfficial. “Now, now Phaedra, you are entitled to your opinion but the facts remain, you don’t know anything about my children. Have you ever met Bryson? If so, it couldn’t have been but once.”
We agree with NeNe that Phaedra should really leave her judgement aside since she doesn’t know NeNe’s sons or their situation, but we think Mrs. Leakes’ next jab went a bit too far. “Remember you have two young boys to raise! Let’s pray they don’t do six years in prison! You know the apple don’t fall far from the tree,”
Though she doesn’t state it directly, NeNe is clearly referencing Phaedra’s husband (and her sons’ father, Apollo) and the time he did behind bars. We understand NeNe’s impulse to fight back and defend her own children, but insinuating that two toddlers could wind up in jail based on their father’s past is taking it too far.
NeNe goes onto say that Bryson’s indiscretions (including a few stints in jail) actually occurred when he was no longer a child, and thus no longer under NeNe’s control. She says of her son, “He was 18 years old from the moment I stepped onto this show. Today he is 24 years old. So from the moment you’ve seen him, he was technically an adult. When he had his daughter, he was 22 years old, a young adult but nonetheless an adult, NOT a child. Yes my son experienced some growing pains, which most do. He’s doing just fine today and thank you for asking!”
Do you agree with the way in which NeNe defended Bryson, or do you think implying that Phaedra’s young boys could end up in jail was a bit much? Weigh in below!
