We’re all dying to know more about the new season of So You Think You Can Dance. The bad news is we’ll have to wait till May to see the auditions and learn which lucky individuals earned a ticket to Vegas. But the good news is that Dance On was around for the Season 9 LA auditions and were able to snag some time with host Cat Deeley, judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy, choreographer Stacey Tookey, and executive producer Jeff Thacker, who all weighed in on the fresh crop of dancin’ talent.
“Every year, we’re not quite sure if the well is going to dry up...but the talent comes through,” Jeff explained. He also gave fair warning to the hopeful auditioning dancers: “If you’re going to come to an audition for us, please stand out... We’ve seen over 50 thousand dancers in just 9 seasons, so something has to be memorable.”
Nigel said the standard of dance keeps going up each season, but the biggest difference he sees from year to year is that the dancers are getting “wiser” — understanding what the show is looking for and being prepared on the big day.
Stacey agrees that the talent is astounding, but is drawn to the dancers that show the most passion when they perform. “That’s what makes me want to work with them.”
Dancers came from all over the country to give their best, but only one can be “America’s Favorite Dancer.”
