This week, we’re comparing two of So You Think You Can Dance’s snappiest and coolest pop-jazz routines. Don’t expect jazz hands and kick-ball-changes. These routines are a little out there, but totally contemporary.
Which routine was the most successful in combining the pop from pop culture and the pizazz of classical jazz technique to create an unforgettable SYTYCD moment?
Season 5: Hot Like Wow
On Season 5, Kayla Randomski and Max Kapitannikov had the audience shouting “Wow!” with this Brian Friedman routine to Nadia Oh’s “Hot Like Wow.”
Kayla and Max used their long limbs to their advantage, pulling off Brian’s angular movement and high-flying kicks. The costumes were super funky, the movement was strange enough, and the dancing was in a league of its own.
Season 3: Cabaret Hoover
An unlikely pairing of a b-girl and a contemporary dancer, Season 3 finalists Jesus Solorio and Sara Van Gillern had all the right moves in this Wade Rodson routine to “Caberet Hoover” from The Triplets of Belleville soundtrack.
From the hunched shoulders, to the paper-ography, to the quirky costumes, to Sara and Jesus’ non-chemistry, Wade’s routine left us wanting more.
Still, a classic SYTYCD moment!
Which routine was the standout for you? You tell us!
