Throughout the past eight seasons of So You Think You Can Dance, we’ve seen a number Latin ballroom routines … some good, some not so good, and some really great!
Today, we’re saluting the dancers and choreographers who gave us the series’s hottest routines. Here are our picks for the 5 sexiest SYTYCD Latin ballroom routines.
5. Season 3 Rumba “Ain’t No Sunshine”
There may be no sunshine when she’s gone, but there sure was a lot of sizzle between Lauren Gottlieb and Dominic Sandoval in this Tony Meredith rumba to Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine.” Known as ballroom’s “dance of love,” the rumba is a sexy dance that requires serious chemistry between partners.
Lauren and Dominic both bring the heat and passion to this well-choreographed number. How about that kiss at the end?
Wow! They really delivered a great routine!
4. Season 6 Cha-Cha-Cha “Cha Cha Heels”
Ashleigh di Lello and Jakob Karr showed America they knew how to shake and shimmy in this Jean-Marc and France Généreux Cha-Cha-Cha to Rosabel’s “Cha Cha Heels.” Both dancers breeze through the fast footwork and intricate partnering, showing off the sexy choreography.
3. Season 8 Argentine Tango “Malajunta”
Featuring Season 8 finalist Caitlynn Lawson and All-Star Pasha Kovalev, this Leonardo Barrionuevo and Miriam Larici Argentine Tango to Orquesta Color Tango’s “Malajunta,” was sultry and oh so good!
The two pulled us into their intimate duo, telling us a sensual love story. It was choreographed and danced beautifully. It’s routines like this that keep the show going strong!
2. Season 2 Paso Doble “The Plaza of Execution”
Heidi Groskreutz and Travis Wall weren’t messing around in this Mary Murphy paso doble to “The Plaza of Execution” from The Mask of Zoro. In the paso doble, the man portrays the matador while the lady is his cap. Heidi and Travis fully embraced their roles in this routine and delivered an “intense” performance.
They had us entranced from the very first lift. We felt the passion, drama, and intensity. Awesome!
1. Season 3 Samba “Hip Hip Chin Chin”
This SYTYCD samba was hot hot hot! Choreographed by alum (and Lacey's future fellow Dancing With the Stars pro) Dmitry Chaplin to Club de Belugas’ “Hip Hip Chin Chin” and featuring contestants Danny Tidwell and Lacey Schwimmer, this routine set the stage on fire.
The two’s chemistry, technique, and Latin flair earned them tickets aboard the hot tamale train. We think this routine should have earned them a conductor’s seat on the hot tamale train! They are on fire!
