So You Think You Can Dance judge Mary Murphy was born in Ohio to an Irish family. Her strong foundation in dance began at Ohio University, where she graduated with a degree in physical education and a minor in modern dance. Shortly after graduation she became a dance instructor and attended the United States Ballroom Championships, which set the critical path for an award-winning career in ballroom dance and her role as the enthusiastic “Queen of Scream” on Fox’s hit dance show So You Think You Can Dance.
