Hometown: Hawaii and Brooklyn, NY
Tony Meredith is originally from Hawaii and Melanie LaPatin was born in Brooklyn, but the duo of Tony and Meredith formed in 1981, and found a home in NYC. They traveled the world competing for the U.S. in the Professional World Latin-American Ballroom Championships, and eventually married in 1989. The couple has earned more than 100 various championship titles in ballroom dance. While their marriage didn’t last long, the two continued a professional relationship and still run their NYC dance studio together. Once the pair hung up their own dancing shoes, they switched their focus to choreography. Since 1999, they’ve been running the “Dance Times Square Studios,” which they still use to teach, and choreograph routines for celebrities. They’ve been staples of SYTYCD from almost the beginning, and continue to dazzle American audiences with their dramatic ballroom routines.
