Solange Knowles in 2008: “I’m Gonna Make Mistakes” (VIDEO)
Before Solange Knowles taught us the art of fighting in an elevator, she may have best been known as Beyoncé’s little sister. But don’t be fooled. When this 27-year-old isn’t perfecting her high kick in a designer ball gown, she’s making her own music. It was to promote her first venture into the music industry that she stopped by Entertainment Tonight way back in 2008.
The fresh-faced singer was candid about her hesitations to follow in her big sister’s footsteps. “How do you handle the media attention?” the ET reporter asks, adding, “These days … there’s a camera everywhere.” Foreshadowing anyone?
“No. 1, I always acknowledge that I’m 22 years old and I’m gonna make mistakes as everybody else does and I’m going to live to a certain extent of normalcy,” Solange replies. “I learned how to sort of, you know, embrace my mistakes, laugh about them, and keep it moving.”
Let’s hope she’s able to live by that advice now, five years later, in the wake of the Jay Z face-off. Both Bey and Jay seem to be long past the shuffle, with Jay spotted jewelry shopping with his sister-in-law yesterday and Beyoncé posting a slew of sisterly snapshots. Maybe this is all just water under the Bey bridge?
Keep watching the video above to hear what Solange had to say about telling people no. Our favorite line: “I have a lot of I don’t give a what in my cup.”
