That’s what happens on an elevator — someone goes up, and someone goes down.
The leaked footage from the infamous Met Gala fight may have strained relationships in the extended Beyoncé/Jay Z/Solange Knowles family, but it certainly didn't hurt Solange's career.
The elevator spat happened on May 5, but the footage wasn't released until the next week. Then it was everywhere. And it's hard to argue that it didn't have a positive effect on Solange's music. According to Nielsen SoundScan data for the week ending May 18, Solange's digital sales jumped to 2,000 downloads, up from just 600 the previous week.
But don't file this one under "all publicity is good publicity." It all depends on how that publicity is perceived. Apparently people were more Team Solange than Team Bey and Jay, since the fight hasn't helped the supercouple's tour tickets.
As Forbes noted, "According to TiqIQ, since the video leak, the average price for Jay-Z and Beyonce tickets has dropped 13.5% on the secondary market. Before the video was released, the average price across all 'On The Run' tour dates was $306.22, behind only Justin Timberlake and Paul McCartney for the most expensive tour of the summer on the secondary market. Now the price has dropped to $264.73, which is still in the top five across upcoming summer tours, but still a far fall from the pre-video average." They added that three concerts now have an average price below $200, but even with the drop, they still have a higher average price than shows from Eminem and Rihanna.
Still, a drop is a drop, and you know Beyoncé and Jay Z did not want a drop. Good for Solange, though. What if the whole "elevator fight" was just a brilliant marketing ploy for her career? Don Draper, was this your idea?
